Auto Insurance Claims: multiple policies, multiple policies

Question
Im moving out of state in 2 months and my current insurer does not cover that state.  I would like to start a new policy now before I move while my credit score is still decent as I know its going to be taking a hit in next few months and I know most insurers use credit score to decide your insurance premiums.  Are there any laws against having 2 policies at once?  Sort of overlapping each other for 2 months.  Will be moving to new york.  The policy I want to start there is with state farm.  My current policy is american family and like i said they dont insure the state of new york.

Answer
Hello James,

There are no laws against having two different insurance polices. However, there cannot be double coverage or double recovery (there are laws against that).

SO basically, one policy would act as the secondary of the other. Like a double limit, whatever the first does not cover, then the second would. Both insurance companies will probably want to be secondaries, so the other carrier pays first. They will have to determine that.

Good Luck
