Auto Insurance Claims: Premium increases, insurance rate increase

Question
I have a perfect driving record and was pulled over for the first time in Mass for crossing a double white line in a tunnel. I am trying to determine what type of premium increase I may expect to incur in addition to the $100 ticket.

Answer
TW,

This is a common question, and unfortunately the answer depends on your insurance company's underwriting guidelines.

If it helps at all, most companies use a point system and getting a moving violation will incur 3 points against you.  Most of the time it takes 3 or more moving violations (3 point violations) to make you change in rate class.  I would be surprised if the infraction affects your rates.  The idea is that just because you broke a traffic law doesn't mean you are an unsafe driver.  Having accidents will affect your premium much more than just getting a ticket.
