Auto Insurance Claims: accident, report or not report

Question
Our vehicle was involved in a minor fender bender by our daughter and there was no police report and no information exchanged. But, someone gave the insured the license plate number and they are now asking for insurance info when there was no damage, what are the ramifications if you do not respond? We cannot see the car because she is away in college and she assures us that there was hardly any visual damage to the bumper.  We know she was in the wrong but are afraid that we are going to be paying for pre-existing damage.  What should we do?

Answer
The best option is to let the insurance company handle it and explain to them your concerns about the level of damages.  Ultimately, if the other person sued, the damages would have to be addressed.  If they won then payment would need to be made or else driver license suspension could be a possibility.
