Auto Insurance Claims: Hit & Run, hit and run allegation

Question
I received a letter/form from an Interinsurance Exchange of the Auto Club saying my car was involved in a "hit & run" accident with their insured. They're asking that I fill out the form with my insurance info. I noticed scratches on my rear bumper on the date Jun 7th, the same date as the "hit & run" accident in the letter. Should I send them the information or file a claim with my Insurance Co?

Answer
I must say Lily, that your scenario is strange.  The question is whether your vehicle was involved in an accident.  Can you prove that it wasn't?  If you cannot, then your best bet is to provide insurance information and let the adjusters fight it out.  It is unusual that the owner of a vehicle would notice scratches, but not find out why they were there.  If you had a party, or had a friend take your vehicle without your permission, then you should simply research that possibility, insurance will cover you in that case, especially if it was somebody who you would have let use your vehicle.

I hope I am being clear enough.  If your vehicle was used on a certain date, you should know, and if you didn't know about it, then you need to prove that.

I hope this helps!
