Auto Insurance Claims: Drivers License / Auto Insurance, insurance comapny, auto insurance

Question
I have an 18-year-old nephew who just got his license and I was wondering if he has to have auto insurance and can his license be taken if he doesn't have insurance?

Answer
Hi Fred,

Auto insurance follows the vehicle and not the driver. There is no requirement that a person have insurance. However there is a requirement that all vehicles have insurance.

You nephew would be covered while driving any vehicle that is not a part of his household. He is required to be listed as a driver on his parents or guardians policy. That is because most policies require that all licenced driver in a household be listed on the policy so that the insurance comapny can charge for the risks that exist within the household.

I hope this helps
