Auto Insurance Claims: private repair claim, property damages, minor accident

Question
if i was in a minor accident where neither party's insurance was notified, although an accident report was filed, how long does the other driver have until i am not liable for the damage to his car anymore? for instance, we agreed to private compensation with the cop being there, but the other driver waited six months to get an estimate. would i still be liable for the damage to his car after so long?

Answer
Your answer depends on the State where the accident occurred and the applicable statute of limitations.  Normally a claim for property damages is valid for at least two years from the time it occured.  Basically, if it has only been six months, then yes, you are still liable.  Sorry!
