Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Insurance Claim, possible total loss auto

Question
My vehicle got severe hail damage.  After meeting with an insurance adjustor I was sent an initial repair check for $3500.  It was made out to my name only, yet the vehicle had a lien from the bank.  3 months later I finally took it into a body shop, they more than doubled the estimate, had the adjustor go out and it was then deemed a total loss.  My claim was then turned over to another adjustor who paid off my loan with the vehicle and also sent me a check of $800 being that my loan balance was less than the value of the vehicle.  I then cashed both the initial repair check and the second check.  Everything is fine and dandy as of now but did I make a mistake or did the insurance company and what can come about from all this.  Thanks.

Answer
Well in my opinion your name should have been added to the check. But no matter, you have not signed a release, so the claim is still open if you want it to be. If you think the insurer paid less than its real value, then you still have a right to a fair value, so continue to negotiate.
