Auto Insurance Claims: proof of insurance to employer, proof of insurance to employer

Question
I live in Pa and I receive a car allowance each month for my vehicle. My company is telling me that I have to show proof of insurance too them to drive my personal vehicle??????? Is this a normal process or is this a law that I have to abide by?

Answer
Hello Stephen

Well, it is very common for employers to do this. They must ensure that you are not driving a car that has no insurance while you are doing company work. If you get in an accident while on the clock, and you have no insurance, the employer will be liable.

Is there a law that requires or gives them this right? Probably not, however, they probably have some kind of work policy that if you cannot follow the process, they can take the allowance away.

I hope this helps,

Good Luck
