Auto Insurance Claims: Adjusting a claim adjuster, threshold point, field adjuster

Question
How do you deal with a Insurance adjuster who won't total your vehicle even if the Field adjuster says it has gone beyond the threshold point given by Georgia insurance industry for a vehicle to be totaled. Last Tuesday 11/24/09 The field adjuster for the insurance company viewed my vehicle for the second time stated to me and the body shop owner that due to a problem discovered during a teardown on my vehicle that the engine will not turn over. That my car was due to be totaled but the adjuster who handles my claim will not do it instead she stated she would give another 1,000 and that was the final supplement she told the owner of the shop. The owner stated to me that he did not tell the adjuster that a 1,000 will do it because until they breakdown the steering issue no one knows what the new estimate will be. But the adjuster is throwing 1,000 at it saying she will not give anymore. I am having a problem with her.

Answer
If you are dealing with your own insurance company, you can file a complaint with your state regulator or insurance commissioner. If you are dealing with another person's (at fault party) company, you can file a claim with your own company and see if the outcome is better.

There are regulations governing the actions of insurance adjusters in every state. You may want to get a copy of them to see if she is within the boundaries of those regs.
