Auto Insurance Claims: Total Loss Entitled to Reimbursment for Repairs Previously Made?, own insurance, car pile

Question
I was 3rd in a 4 car pile up in MA. My car will likely be totalled. Can I recover any of the money spent on recent repairs?  Also, would the driver behind me not be responsible for part of my front end damage? (I did collide w/ the car in front of me first but was pushed again into the same car by the driver behind me.). Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

You should file this claim with your own insurance company. Since there are multiple cars and multiple impacts, it may take several weeks to several months before all the insurance companies decide on who is liable for what. They will need to take statements from all of the drivers. There are apt to be conflicts in those statements. If you have collision coverage, file on your own policy then your insurance company will be reimbursed when the dust settles. If you do not have collison coverage, you should prepare for a long wait before all of the decisions are made.

I hope this helps
