Auto Insurance Claims: claims for injuries sustained, medical payments coverage

Question
If the cost of injuries sustained in an auto accident caused by another,(who also was impaired while driving)exceed the limits of his policy, can your own personal policy then be made to pay what is left of costs, even though your vehicle was not in any way involved? My car was at home while this guy crashed his vehicle injuring my granddaughter. Only his vehicle was involved in a rollover.

Answer
I would say yes under Med Pay and Underinsured motorist coverage. Look at your declarations page to see if you have the "underinsured" motorist coverage in addition to "uninsured" motorist coverage. And read the definition of an insured in both sections of the policy. If our granddaughter is not living with you, then she probably would not be covered under your policy.
