Auto Insurance Claims: insurance claim statue of limitations, minor fender, fender bender

Question
Back in 2000 on Long Island NY<I was involved in a minor fender bender. My insurance had lapsed a couple of days before so I received a ticket for no insurance.I settled out of court the $500 deductible to the guy I hit to avoid going to court. To make a long story short, he filed the claim regardless and about three years ago I started receiving letters from his insurance agency claiming I owe him $4200. they have suspended my license in the state of Nevada and I cannot afford pay them what they want.Is there a statue on this, since it happened 9 years ago?

Answer
Hi Lawrence,

The statute of limitations in New Your is 3 years for property damage. However, there may be some extension due to the fact that you had no insurance. I am not sure. You would need to speak with an attorney in New York that handles auto accident claims.

I hope this helps
