Is it illegal to file a claim for a car accident on the date the insurance policy was established if the policy was started after the accident happened?

Answer
If you have knowledge that the accident occurred before the policy was acquired, and you are representing that the policy was in force at the time, this would be fraud (illegal).

If however, you file a claim, and explain the truth, the claim probably has no coverage, but it would not be illegal because you did not make any misrepresentation. Filing the claim is not illegal. The illegality would exists depending on the representations you make.
