Auto Insurance Claims: 2 claims vs 1, vandalism, deductibles

Question
My suv was broken into and was hit all in while  we were eating dinner at a restaurant.  I filed out a police report.  When my vehicle was taken to my insurance's adjuster, I was told there would need to be 2 separate claims instead of one.  This would also entail 2 different deductibles, one for vandalism( breaking my window) and a separate one for hit and run.  Is this right?  It happened all at once and 2 separate deductibles just doesn't make sense.

Answer
I understand your frustration.  Unfortunately, you described two different incidents, and each is covered under a different coverage - comprehensive for the vandalism and then collision for the hit and run.  So it appears they handled this correctly.  Unless the hit and run was caused in a malicious/intentonal manner, in which you might have it also classified as vandalism.
