Auto Insurance Claims: I hit our other vehicle while backing out of the driveway, Liability Coverage, collision coverage

Question
I hit our other vehicle while backing out of the driveway this morning.  Both vehicles are covered by the same policy and have full coverage.  One has a lien holder and one does not.  What will happen with the claim?  Is this one claim or two?  Collision or Comp?  Have many deductibles will I pay?
Thanks!

Answer
Hello Debra,

I am sorry to hear about your accident. What a way to start your day? Sorry.

Your liability coverage will pay for the damage of the car you hit. There is no deductible for that damage, however, it is important to note that some insurance companies will argue that your liability coverage should not apply because you cannot be liable to yourself (not triggering the liability coverage).

The damages to the car you were driving will be covered under the collision coverage, and it will be subject to your deductible (one deductible).

Remember that some policies will forgive your deductible if two vehicles insured by the same insurance company are involved in one collision. This might be the case in your situation.
