Auto Insurance Claims: Car Collision, car collision, medical bill

Question
Hello,

The incident that happend was with a former friend who's car was being driven. He was intoxicated and shouldnt have been driving, we had a driver who was driving. The former friend had dumped a drink on the driver's lap, he then pull-over to clean himself off. The former friend then slipped into the drivers seat. He took off and lost control of the car. It was flipped and rested against a light pole. I still do not have any memory of the night because I was unconcsious from then on. The former friend who caused the accident abandoned the car and took off to hide in the closest hole he could find. He was found later thanks to a police chopper with a special camera. He was found and began to weave a magical tail of how I was the driver and I caused the accident. The four witnesses who stopped to help with the other driver who was left behind, all say he was the driver. They also pointed out the fact that I was still unconscious and in the back passenger seat.

The collision left me in a coma for three days. Two months later I still have a number of medical problems. I am most concerned with my health, I am military and they have done well to take care of me. I'm still unsure if I will be able to keep my job. I have a Dr. for everyday of the week, who have all told me its going to take a few more months for me to be even close to my former self.

My question is, at the chance of being discharged from the military what compenastion can I expect from the former friend and his insurance company. and should I get a lawyer to make sure the right information is getting to them.

Answer
Hi S,

You should immediately seek the advice of an attorney. It sounds like your injuries are serious and you need to be sure that your rights are protected. An attorney can find out how much coverage the other person has and will help organize all of your treatment and medical bill information as well as negotiate the settlement.

I hope this helps
