Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Accident - Disputing Police Report and Fault, uninsured motorist coverage, rear view mirror

Question
I should have made myself more clear about my actions.  I was making a left turn into an empty parking lot.  Once in the lot I u-turn my car to come out again.  I can't u-turn in the middle of the road because like I mention it's curved and I won't be able to see the cars.  Even coming out the lot its hard to see what's coming ahead.  I believe that where the cops got confused about my turn event though I explained it to him just the same.  I just found out that the other driver didn't have coverage "that day".  I'm assuming that his policy was cancelled for non-payment but he owned a 2009 Camery so I know he should have been insured. I'm forced to file my uninsured motorist coverage.  Now, since I have to go that route should I get a lawyer?  I'm thinking I really need the medical treatment and I only have $2000 worth of medical coverage on my insurance.

Answer
OK.. let's see if I now have this right.

You were making a left hand turn into the lot in order to get turned-around.

The other vehicle was behind you before you started your turn...

Did you have your turn signal on?

Did you look into your rear-view mirror before staring your turn?  If so, did you see the other car at that time?

How many lanes of travel in each direction for the roadway you were
on?

If more than one lane in the direction you were traveling which lane were you and in what part of the lane were you in prior to commencing your turn?

What time of day?

What were the lighting conditions?

What was the weather like (precip?)?

What road markings separated oncoming traffic?  Single yellow or double yellow?

Did you for any reason swing to the right in order to make your left turn?

What would have made the other operator think you were making a right hand turn?

Did you slow in order to make the turn?

What was your estimated speed at time of impact?

Get back to me and we'll sort this out?
