Auto Insurance Claims: Coverage question, household member, family member

Question
Hello,
If I lend my car to a friend or family member, and they have an accident which they are at fault for, whose insurance would cover this?  Mine or their own?  Would they put the claim through my carrier, and then would it be subrogated?  I live in CT -  thanks!!

Answer
Hi Patti,

Auto insurance follows the vehicle not the insured. So if you loan your vehicle to a friend or relative and they have an accident it would be your insurance that would pay the claim. Also remember that you can only loan your vehicle to a relative if they do not live in your household. Any household member must be listed on your policy as a driver or there is no coverage at all.

I hope this helps
