Auto Insurance Claims: Damage claim- can I repair the vehicle, lien holder, legal obligation

Question
Will my insurance company (Geico) pay me to repair my claim? They are telling me the check will be issued to myself and the body shop I choose.

Answer
This is likely because you still have a loan balance on the car.  The insurer is under a legal obligation to protect the lien holder by issuing payment to either you and the lien holder or you and the shop.

If you owe nothing and have clear title, then you can demand the check by paid to you only.
