Auto Insurance Claims: insurance claim, state department of insurance, giving me a hard time

Question
I am a truck driver and used to park my car outside the yard whenever i pick up my truck.

two months back,My car was stripped out while it was parked outside the yard.
all the wheels, seats, radio, everthing was stolen.

Once i was back from east coast, i reported progessive immediately and they send a auditor and he said it was totalled and it would take a week to process the payment.

after, few weeks they come back to me and say something seems suspicious and they are investigating.
Now its been more then two months, with no car and have a hard time going to work.
I can buy a new car, but want to clear the loan on my old car first.
I am still making the payments for my old car.

The insurance company is giving me a hard time.I have paid my progessive monthly installments on time.

what should i do. help me.

Answer
Hi Simer,
Your policy does give the insurance company the right to conduct an investigation when they feel there is something suspicious about the claim.
Unfortunately, many companies use this clause to simply delay your payment.
Since this delay is due to their investigation, they should still be paying for your rental car.
Since 60 days have past, the company has had sufficient time to conduct their investigation and should be filing charges or making payment to you.

In my opinion, your first step should be to file a complaint with your state department of insurance.  This is usually enough to cause the company to speed up their actions and reach a resolution and will take about 30 days or less.

Keep cooperating with the company and continue making your car and insurance payments.

I hope that you find this information to be of help.  Please send me a follow up if the insurance commissioner doesn't resolve the problem.

Your feedback by rating my response will be appreciated.

Sincerely,
