Auto Insurance Claims: collision claim, collision coverage, stationary object

Question
I added a collision coverage to my current insurance premium yesterday and had collision with a stationary object at a parking lot this morning. Police was not called and there was no witnesses. What kind of evidences should I have to assure my insurance company that I am not frauding. Thanks

Answer
Hi Paul,

Most companies will require when you add collision coverage for the agent to inspect the car to be sure there was no pre-existing damage. If this occured in your case then you have no problem. If it did not occure then the insurance company will send an inspector to inspect your car. They can usually tell if the damage looks fresh or old. Then they will make a decision on whether to pay or not.

Keep in mind that you will have to pay your deductible. Yu may want to go to a body shop to get an estimate before you call your insurance company. If the cost to repair the damage is below or slightly above your deductible, you may want to consider just paying it with out contacting your insurance company. If they pay a claim your rates may go up more then that pay out.

I hope this helps
