Auto Insurance Claims: automotive claim on totaled vehicle, chevy cobalt, full disclosure

Question
I am 19 years old and recently bought a used chevy cobalt from a dealership. One afternoon my father drove the car and crashed into a fence. The vehicle is titled in my name; however, the insurance policy is in my father's name. Will the insurance cover the claim on the vehicle? What is the recommended course of action?

Answer
Jeremy,

Generally, yes, the insurance company should pay this claim. Are you listed on the insurance policy?  Are you excluded on the insurance policy? Did your father do this just to get a lower insurance rate? These are important questions. However, since your father was the driver in this instance he should be covered.

That being said, the real question for you to look into is, if you were driving would you be covered. Make sure the policy was taken out with full disclosure of you to the insurance company.
