Auto Insurance Claims: hit and run claim, property damage coverage, uninsured motorist property damage

Question
hi there,
i am new to insurance claims.
yesterday i had parked my car in an apartment complex
parking lot and after i visited my friend, when i came
down, i saw that some one had smashed my front bumper and
my hood is also little bit mal-aligned. i called 911 and
get a reported to police. thet came and wrote down the
police report, thatg will be available after 3 days. i also
reported to my insurance agency. i had 30$ rental/day
coverage, 500$ standard collision deductible, 250 standard/
50 glass for comprehensive coverage.
i was wondering, i am not at fault, then do i have to worry
about deductibles or not?
we could not able to trace out that person who hit his car
to my front bumper.
will this going to increase my insurance premium?

thanks,

andy.

Answer
Hi Andy,

You should ask your insurance comapny how they will handle this. Since there is no proof that another vehicle was involved, it is possible this will be through your collision coverage in which case you will pay your deductible and will likely be considered an at-fault event and increase your premium. It is also possible they will handle it as an uninsured motorist claim if you have uninsured motorist property damage coverage. In that case you would not pay a deductible and there would be no increase in premium. Bit, you will have to ask your insurance company how this will be handled.

I hope this helps
