Auto Insurance Claims: GA repairs, salvage title, insurance company

Question
I live in GA and the insurance company says, if I want to keep the car that I have
to get it repaired by law. They also say that I have to get a salvage title even
though I have a title. I bought the car 2 weeks before for 1500 and their was at
fault. They offered 1370 to total the car or 1000 to fix it. Is this right?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rob,

Yes. This is correct. You will need to sign the title over to the insurance company. They will apply for a salvage title in their name. Then they will sign the title over to you. You will then have to have the repairs done and then pay the state $150.00 for an inspection to be sure the repairs were done correctly. Then you can apply for the title to be put back in your name. However, the title will say "Rebuilt Salvage" on it which will make the car only worth half of standard value.

I hope this helps
