Auto Insurance Claims: Claim, fog lights, brushguard

Question
Someone backed into my SUV, which damaged the brush guard, grill, bumper, fog lights, etc.  The estimate of damage from the person's insurance company is over $3,500.00 for repairs.  The estimate for the brush guard is close to $600.00.  If I decide not to have the brush guard replaced, can I keep the $600.00, or do I have to return that money to the other person's insurance company.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Christine,

The brushguard is damaged. They are just paying you for that damage. The money is yours to replace it or not at your option. The only caveat would be if you get further front end damage from another source, you should state the damaged bar as pre-existing.
