Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance, statute of limitations, auto insurance

Question
I live in MN. Let's say I own 2 vehicles one is insured the other is not. I drive the uninsured vehicle bump into someone and cause damage. Can I use the insured vehicles insurance to cover the damage? Also, what is the statute of limitations on claims?

Answer
Hi Jane,

The answer to your question is actually in the question itself. One car has insurance and one car does not. That means that there is no coverage on the one that is not insured. You can not use the coverage from your other car to pay for damage caused by the car that had no coverage. If you could then someone with 4 cars would only have to insure 1 of them and could use that coverage on the other 3 cars that have no insurance.

In MN the statute of limitations for property damage is 2 years.

I hope this helps
