Auto Insurance Claims: Insurance company and uninsured claim, insurance comapny, insurance company

Question
My boyfriend backed out of the driveway and hit another car.  His insurance had lapsed, though he is now covered.  The person he hit filed a police report and has called their insurance company.  As my boyfriend does currently have insurance, the police did not do anything.  If the person he hit files a claim with their insurance company, will that insurance company notify the police or state in regards to the uninsured claim (and that it relates to him?)

Answer
Hi Joe,

The insurance company will not notify the state or the police. However, they will be comming after your boyfriend to reimburse them for the cost of the repairs that they pay out to fix the car. Since your boyfriend did not have insurance to cover the damage he caused, he is now personally responsible to pay for the damage out of his own pocket. At some point the insurance company will send him a letter demanding payment. He should call them to work out a payment plan if needed. He should not ignore the letter because he does the insurance comapny will file a law suit against him and he will then have to pay not only for the cost of repairs, but also the insurance company's legal expenses and court costs as well.

I hope this helps
