Auto Insurance Claims: Insurance premium change, insurance premium, second car

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I had 2 accidents within a period of 3 months. I was at fault for the first one. I am told that i am at fault for the 2one. Basically for 2nd accident i was slowly backing my car and a second car right behind my car and stopped. I could not see and there was a hit. Now the cop told i am at fault, which though i did not agree with him. I have not got my report.

1. Now if this second claim is sent to my insurer. What happens?
2. If i am considered at fault, will there be a change in my premium.

Please advise
regards
Venkii

ANSWER: Hi Venkii,

From your description it does sound like you will be at fault for the second accident.

You should expect that your insurance rates will go up. You would have to call your company to find out how much.

QUESTION: Hi
Thanks for the reply. I have a question. I want to change my auto insurance, but the person with whom i had an accident has not filed a claim, suppose in later future he files a claim, what will happen?.

will my first old insurance pay for the claim?.
Will i have any issue, can i get sued or any case can come on me, i.e. can my first old insurance refuse the claim and the person sues me.

Please advise?.

Answer
Hi Venkii,

If a claim is made to your insurance company for the second accident, they will pay the claim. It is ok if you want to change insurance companies. The old insurance company will still pay the claim. If you receive any law suit papers you should contact the old insurance company immediately. The will handle the law suit and will even provide you with an attorney to defend you if necessary.
