Auto Insurance Claims: double coverage auto insurance, applicable state laws, coordination of benefits

Question
I read  your answer regarding auto policies usually having a coordination of benefits if there are 2 policies covering the same damage.  What about my deductible?  I hit a pole, $2000 damages; both policies have a $500 deductible.  Should they pay all of it and cover my deductible as well?  I know that is the case with health insurance double coverage.  We are in Texas.

Answer
Hi Darla,

In most cases the two insurance companies will coordinate. That would mean that each would split the deductible so you would still pay only $500.00. Of course the exact wording of the policies in question would have to be examined as well as any applicable state laws.

I hope this helps
