Auto Insurance Claims: minor fender bender - other party at fault, minor fender, fender bender

Question
My car was parked in a lot when someone else, while attempting to park in the adjacent spot, hit the corner of my car.  Just some scrapes and bowed out a bit.  I wasn't in the car at the time, but someone else was.  She got the other driver's information then the other driver left.  I had an officer come to the scene who took down plate numbers, but no statements since the other driver left.  The other party admitted fault and the officer came to the same conclusion.

My car is pretty old and I don't have collision coverage.  I'm not really sure what step I should take next.  I'm not too concerned about the cosmetics, but would like the other driver's insurance to pay if there are mechanical problems. Is it worth it for me to inform my insurance co. since I don't have collision?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Mike,

Since you do not have collision coverage there is no point in reporting this to your insurance company. They will not do anything to help you.

You should file a claim with the at-fault persons insurance. No matter how minor the damage, they owe you the cost to repair it whether you have it repaired or not.

I hope this helps
