Auto Insurance Claims: auto accident, english solicitor, certified mail

Hello ...My husband and I had a serious car accident 3yrs ago with our American friends .A young man feel asleep and hit us head on,liability was proven, i was transfered to Baltimore trauma to have surgery and almost lost my life ,it has left me with a perminant arm injury with alot of metal fixations.
The young man only had limited insurance and I wondered how that would affect the claim also I believe there is a time limit on these claims ,
I have e-mailed my atteroney three weeks ago asking this question but never recieved an answer we have no information from him and our English solicitor has problems getting information,
I wonder if you could help .i would appreciate it if you kept this question confidential .....kindest regards Pearl

Hi Pearl,

I'm sorry for your situation.

If the at-fault person had only minimal coverage, it would seem that that is perhaps all you can get is the limit of his coverage. It is also possible that if your friend who owned the car you were in had underinsured motorist coverage you may be able to collect additional funds from that coverage. Unfortunately these claims to often take a considerable amount of time.

In Maryland the statute of limitations for injury claims is 3 years from the date of the injuries. I would suggest that you use any measures necessary to get in contact with your attorney in Maryland. Call, email or send certified mail. You need to be firm with the attorney to find out what is going on, the status of your case and verify the statute of limitations.
