Auto Insurance Claims: Neighbors Car Hit My House, auto insurance company, cracked foundation

Question
My neighbor's car hit my house 3 weeks ago and the adjuster for their insurance company gave an estimate that was ridiculously low. My fence was knocked down and I have a huge hole in the side of my house (plus a cracked foundation). I can hardly get answers from this company and am having trouble getting bids for it to all get fixed since they know it is insurance related. The insurance company will not call me and seems to be stalling. Should I get a lawyer involved at this point in time? It is very frustrating.

Answer
Hi Barbara,

The easiest way to handle this is to file the claim on your own homeowners policy. Then they will deal with getting reimbursed by the at-fault persons insurance company. Your homeowner insurance will be better equiped to deal with the claim than will an auto insurance company. The will be able to recommend contractors and even structural engineers to properly check out your home.

I hope this helps
