Auto Insurance Claims: 3 car accident, middle car, physical injuries

Question
Hi, My Daughter was involved in a straight line, three car accident yesterday (thankfully no physical injuries) The 3 cars where in a row where she was the last car. My daughters car has very little damage but the middle car has major front and rear damage. She hit the car from behind and than the middle car hit the front car. My question is she responsible for the middle cars' front damage? or should the middle car have left enough room to stop before hitting the front car? Does it matter if the middle car hit the front car before or after she hit? Could the center car say she was pushed into the front car?
She did not give the police a statement and we will be calling the insurance company today to report the accident.
Thanks for any info and sorry for any confusion

Answer
Hi John,

If your daughter hit the middle car and pushed it into the the next car then she is responsible for all of the damage. If the middle car hit the car in front first and then she hit the middle car then she is only responsible for the rear damage to the middle car.

How it will all be determined will be based on recorded statements the insurance company will take from each of the drivers as well as any witnessess.

I hope this helps
