Auto Insurance Claims: UMPD Question, minimum liability, uninsured driver

Question
I live in Oklahoma and that state is not a state where UMPD is available. My policy is written in that state. It is my understanding that your policy coverage can adhere to different state laws, for example if you are traveling from Oklahoma to Texas. Texas is a state that does have UMPD. If I had an accident in Texas with an at fault uninsured driver, would that lower my deductible? Are there certain guidelines for that or does that also vary from state to state? Does it depend on what state your policy is written in?

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately no. The portion or your policy that adjusts is only the liability coverage. For example; if you live in a state where the minimum liability coverage is $10,000 for damage that you cause to someone else and you are at fault for an accident in a state where the minimum liability coverage is $25,000 then you would have upto $25,000 in coverage to pay for damage that you cause to someone elses property. But the coverage for yourself does not adjust.

I hope this helps
