Auto Insurance Claims: comprehensive auto insurance question, paint chip, insurance question

Question
we were driving down the expressway and apparently a metal piece was in the road it was dark so you would never expect something like that to be there. It hit the front of our car where there are two obvious paint chip marks and then it went under the car and it did $900.00 damaged the oil pan and crushed another part.  Is this
called "comprehensive".  Also there was a little rock that flew to the windshield on the expressway and it cracked it.
Is that "comprehensive" and can both be filed under the same claim.  We have comprehensive.  We did not hit any other car just ran over a metal piece that was left in the expressway at dark.

Answer
Hi Sue,
Anytime that you run over an object on the road or hit a non-moving object such as a tree, pole or parked car, it is considered a collision and coverage falls under that portion of your policy.
Since the rock that hit your windshield was airborne at the time of impact, coverage falls under the comprehensive portion of your policy.

These are two separate losses and can not be combined under one claim.
You can report them both at the same time, but they will be considered as two separate claims and handled accordingly with two separate deductibles.

I hope this information has been of help.
Your feedback by rating my answer will be appreciated.
