Auto Insurance Claims: How do I find out the insureds coverage?, person request, attornies

Question
In a no-fault auto incident can I obtain information about the coverage the person has who hit me? I recently used an attorney who settled a case for me. The lawyer was able to get the information - how could I have done that? Would I get that through my insurance company? Can a person request that information from the insured's company? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Andrea-

The insured has to agree to provide that information.  They will sometimes agree if they think it will help you settle for the amount of the policy limits.  So you should just sue for what your damages are and then see what happens from there.  If it's not in their best interest to tell you then you or the attorney may not be able to get the information.
The attornies may have some other ways of finding it out, but that has been my personal experience.
