Auto Insurance Claims: cash or insurance, vechile, minor accident

Hello:
Thanks for theis resource. I was recently involved in a minor accident where I rear-ended a another vechile hwere we live in calgary alberta. His vechile has 1100 dollars damage to the rear bumper and mine has no damage. I was in the wrong and I have a clean record with no accidents or tickets. I have basic liablility with portage la prarie. He is offering we do a cash settlement. I am wondering what the impact of cash-verses going thru the insurance agency will be. I have been advised not to phone the agency or less i want to report a claim.
I am not sure which way to turn.

Hi Doug-

It really depends alot on your years of driving experience.  The less experience you have  the more of an impact it will have.

I looked at one of my quoted for someone with 18 years of driving experience and the premium went from $59 a month to $95 a month after adding a recent accident.  It depends a lot on the company of course too, but hopefully that gives you some idea.
