Auto Insurance Claims: teen driver with permit, own insurance, teen driver

Question
my daughter was parking her boyfriends car in a parking lot and blacked out and she hit 5 parked cars.  She is only 15 and has a learners permit, her boyfriend is 16.
We live in Michigan, I don't think her boyfriend has collison coverage on his car.

Answer
Hi Cathy,

It is my understanding that Michigan is a no-fault state. That means that everyone goes to their own insurance to have the damages repaired. Also, if it can be proven that your daughter blacked out and can be verified by a doctor, she may not be held accountable due to a medical condition.

I hope this helps
