Auto Insurance Claims: Claim auto, paint and body shop, salvage company

Question
My son was driving our van who is not on the policy and my husband who is on the policy had a one car accident. The van was towed to a paint and body shop of my choice. My husband called in a claim. The adjuster went out to look at the van and totaled the van out.He did not call us to like us know anything. Two weeks later the body shop called us to inform us that the insurance company was picking up the van.I the meantime he is telling us he cannot pay out on the claim until he find the policy information .We in turn have been calling him to see what is going on.Today we call him and he said they denied the claim and will not pay because our son who has a license was not listed on the policy. When they have moved the car to another city. Is this true .We live in GA

Answer
Hi Butler,

Everyone living in your household who has a drivers license is required to be listed on the policy. If they are not then there is no coverage if an unlisted person is involved in an accident. Since the insurance company has moved the vehicle then they should have the vehicle towed back to a location of your choice at no charge. It will then be up to you to either pay to repair the vehicle or sell it to a salvage company.  If you do not want to deal with all this you may be able to sell it to the salvage company that currently has the vehicle.

I hope this helps
