Auto Insurance Claims: sett;ement, medical bills, medical expenses

Question
Hi, I was hit in a crosswalk while walking 10/06.  I had several visits to the Doctor and still have slight pain in ankle and bump on shin.  The USAA wants to settle for 9000 which is about three times the medical bills.  They have already paid all the medical bills.  My concern, is future bills.  The doctor said I my develop arthritis in the ankle.
Anyhew, when I mentioned this to the adjust., she asked if I had a figure in mind.  I have no idea what to counteroffer.
Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi James,

It's very difficult to determine what is any problems mat arise in the future. An offer of three times the medical bills is fairly standard. If you are concerned anout possible future medical expenses, you may try to demand $15,000.00. The you can negotiate something in between the 9K and the 15K which would be about $12,000.00. This would provide an additional $3,000.00 for possible additional medical expenses and or pain & suffering.

I hope this helps
