Auto Insurance Claims: No LDW on car rental, car damages, ldw

Question
Hi.  I foolishly declined LDW and scraped another car as I was pulling into the car rental facility to return the vehicle.

I don't have a credit card that has a provision for car damages.  How should I handle this to minimize the out of pocket expense to me?

I don't own a car so I don't have car insurance.  Is there such a thing as retroactive insurance.

Answer
Hi Susan,

No there is no such thing as retroactive insurance. Unfortunately, with no insurance and no credit card that provides coverage for a rental car, there is not much you can do. You will owe the rental company for the cost of repairs. You may even potentially owe other expenses as well such as the loss of income of the damaged car.  You will need to just wait until they present you with a bill and then try to negotiate the best deal you can or make an agreement to make payments over time.

I hope this helps
