Auto Insurance Claims: How to survive when lost of income stopsper your insurance and your Dr. has not released you, high speed chase, traumatic stress disorder

Question
Hello Richard,
My cousin was hit head-on by police officers in a high speed chase. The city has accepted responsibility and a lawyer has been hired to settle this issue.

The problem is my cousin has used her car insurance to pay for surgeries, lost wages and other expenses until she receives her settlement. The most recent event is the insurance Dr. has released her and her insurance will cease income checks ASAP. The hospital Dr.(not her primary-therefore neutral) has not released her to return to work. What should she do?
Ask for an advance from the law office? Go back to work...
Her injuries include:
1) Aggravated carpal tunnel (pre-existing condition noted in her medical records from her primary, but not severe enough to hinder work). She has since had hand surgery due to the accident.
2) Vertebral Antropathy - neck injury to the cervical area of the spine I guess. Receiving physical therapy
3)Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - receiving meds for this too
So that being said she still has some issues. What would be her best move.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
Joy

Answer
Hi Joy,

The insurance company's only interest here is to stop paying as soon as possible. Your cousin will need to discuss this issue with her attorney. It may be possible for both parties to agree on a third opinion, which if it comes back in your cousin's favor may keep some cash flowing. However, since your cousin is represented by an attorney any and all questions or possible strategies should be discussed only with the attorney. He/she would need to initiate anything that might help.

I hope this helps
