Auto Insurance Claims: Irate neighbor, irate neighbor, deductible reimbursement

Question
I live in Michigan and my car was parked legally in front of my house at the curb, my neighbors car across the street slipped gears and rolled out of his driveway and back into mine causing enough damage to render the car undriveable so I started the claims process by calling my insurance company and the local police to file a report. A few days later I went to my neighbor to ask for his insurance information because I was told by my insurance company I could seek a deductible reimbursement from his company and he refused to give it to me since "I called the cops on him". both cars were unoccupied and parked at the time so I'm assuming hes at fault for faulty equipment. what I was wondering is now what are my options? get a lawyer, call the police back out, file small claims, and what are the penalties, if any, for not giving me his information, if indeed he has insurance

Answer
Hi Scott,

In order to minimize direct confrontation with your meighbor you should ask your insurance company if they will send him a letter requesting his insurance information. If that does not work you can try calling the police to obtain the information. Short of that you would then need to hire an attorney.

I hope this helps
