Auto Insurance Claims: Personal injury insurance claim check, PIP, No Fault

Question
I was in an accident while driving someone else's vehicle. I was by myself and fell asleep at the wheel. I spent a night in the hospital and was released the next day. My friends insurance company will pay for the hospital bill under the personal injury liability portion of the policy. My question is do I have the right to demand the check be payable to me and only me? The accident was in Texas.

Answer
 Hello Andy,

The coverage you are referring to is Personal Injury Protection, also known as PIP or No Fault.
The purpose, as you may well already know, is to pay your medical bills (up to the limits of the coverage) for injuries sustained as a result of the accident - regardless of fault.

Medical bills should be forwarded directly to the insurance company for payment.  No, they are not payable to you.

Hope this helps.
