Auto Insurance Claims: parking lot accident, parking lot accident, paint scratch

Question
QUESTION: As I was coming out of the parking lot, I got minor bump on driver side from the car coming into the parking. I agreed verbally that it was partially my fault also and damages to other car was only some paint scratch marks on his bumper and i agreed to pay the money for repairs which at that time he told me will be $50-100. He took me insurance details just in case. Meanwhile I went to body shop removed the bump on my car door.  After 2 days he calls me and tells that his mechanics told him that his bumper needs replacement which is about $2,000/- and I told him to take second opinion from my mechanics or else contact my insurance company .
My question is what next??. How can i tell my insurance company  that other person is faking and i am not entirely responsible for the accident. No police report, no witness. Can he report to my insurance company after 3 days about this accident. What can I do or what stand i take when my insurance calls me to let me know about this accident. i have 4 years of clean driving record.
thanks you for your advice

ANSWER: Hi Anthony,

If the claim is reported to your insurance company, they will do an investigation. They will take statements from both of you and determin who is at fault anf for what percentage.  Also your insurance company will send a damage estimator to inspect the damage and will write their own estimate of the cost of repairs and will negotiate the cost with the body shop doing the repairs so that they will not get ripped off.

I hope this helps

QUESTION: My Insurance company called me and took my version of accident and after that they told me I am 100% at fault . They told me according to some standard set of rules and according to that I am at fault although the accident is in a parking lot. Will this affect my driving record??? Is a there difference if the accident is in parking lot or on the road.....minor or major. Does insurance company gives weightage to where the accident takes place and its total cost of repairs .
Please advise websites where I can read more about it.
thanks

Answer
Hi Anthony,

I do not know of any websites to direct you to. However, based on my experience thay are probobly correct. They will consider it to be an at-fault event. It does not matter is the company pays out $50.00 or $50,000.00, the affect is the same. You should ask your agent how this may affect your premiums or policy in general.
