Auto Insurance Claims: rental company charging above insurance settlement amount., full coverage insurance, rental car company

Question
My son was in an accident which resulted in a total loss for his 2006 Sorento and a rental 2007 Chrysler 300. We had now problems dealing with our insurance (Farmers). Now we got a bill from Thrifty car rentals for $3400 over what the settlement was from the insurance. After speaking with Farmers, they paid wholesale value, but Thrifty is seeking full replacement value. They say it is up to us to pay it. Farmers says that is not the law and if they want to take us to court over it they will represent us. Is it possible we will be forced to pay this extra money even though we had full coverage insurance?

Answer
Hi Susan,

I do not think you will have to pay. You should follow the instructions of your insurance company. Tell the rental car company that if they want more money that they should call your insurance company.

I hope this helps
