Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Claim on windshield, empty trailer, trucking company

Question
How does windshield Claims work? Do i have to claim it with my Ins Co. or can i go after the other person Ins.?
A company Dump Truck with a long empty Trailer was driving the opposite way then me and a Big rock came flying off his trailer and hit my window which made a very big round crack and looks like some little lines from it which might go longer over time. I did follow the truck and told him what happened and told him that i wanted his info Which i got and took a picture of his Owner ship and Insurance. Does that help me in anyway? I only got my Ins. a week ago and this was the first day i was out with it.

Thanks for ANY help you can give me

Answer
I would certainly pursue the trucking company before attempting a claim with your own insurance.  If it were an actual accident, you are contractually required to report it but not likely the case with a windshield.  You may also want to ask your agent about the underwriting policies on windshield claims.  It may not have any affect on your rates.
Good luck!
