Auto Insurance Claims: Farmers Insurance, farmers insurance, financial reason

Question
My boyfriends car was keyed months ago. We sent the vehicle in to be fixed and paid extra out of pocket for a two toned paint job. Well in Dec we went to leave and found it keyed in our driveway. So we contacted Farmers to report claim. They asked if we made a police report and we said no. The claims rep said well it's not required. Then all of a sudden an investigator is assigned. My bf meets with him answers his questions etc... Now they are asking for additional info such as authorization to obtain financial and other factual info, cell phone records, want him to file police report which he's fine with, as well as asking for proof of car payments for last 12 months. Do we have to provide them with financial info, cell phone records and copies of car payments? It's my understanding that it is irrevelent to the claim. Please help. I would like to know what I do and do not have to provide.

Answer
Hi Jamie,

Your boyfriend must answer all of their questions or they will deny the claim for noncooperation.

The insurance company thinks that your boyfriend caused this damage in order to collect some money. They want the financial info to see if he has any financial reason to have keyed the vehicle himself in order to make a claim.

I hope this helps
