Auto Insurance Claims: accident in july, insurance company, rear end

Question
hi i got into an accident in july 2006 i have insurance and i reported it to my insurance company but i keep receieving letters from the persons insurance company saying i need to pay the amount for the damages with is suposeddly 6000 dollars withs is crazy because it was a 2000 camry and they had at most 2 dents in the rear. their damage was rear end only and my car was totaled. im not going to lie i hit them pretty hard but their damage was so minimal it definitely cant add up to 6000 i have 3 witnesses including myself who seen the damage to the car. the car even drove away fine. my questions are how do i got about dispute that claim and if i stop paying for my insurance because at the moment i dont have a car will i end up being liable for those payments on their vehicle.

Answer
Hi David,

You should contact your insurance company at the time of the accident. Let them know about these people who are trying to collect from you. You may also want to send them a copy of the letters you received. You have nothing to worry about. Your insurance company will handle the claim, investigate the damage and will pay what they determine to be correct.

I hope this helps
