Auto Insurance Claims: Motorcycle Accident, damage assesment, motorcycle racer

Question
I was in an accident while riding my motorcycle one evening.  It was the other drivers fault which he admitted. Later, his insurance company also admitted that he was 100% at fault for the accident. I took the bike in to a dealship for a damage assesment.  Total for parts was $5800, while grand with labor and tax was $7600.  Similar bikes to mine with slightly cheaper accessories are selling for $6200 (mine was previously owned by a professional motorcycle racer).  A new bike from a dealer (they have become rare the last 4 years) is around $11,500.  My issues is that I do not was to get a check for $6000 since it will not put my bike back in the condition it was before the wreck.  I would like the bike restored to its previous condition.  How likely is the insurance company to go this route?  What can I do to keep from having them salvage the bike and getting a check that cannot fix a wrecked bike or replace it with a new bike?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Matt,

The insurance company will determine the value of the bike. If the cost to repair is more that 75% of the value they will likely declare it to be a total loss. The only way to possible stop this is to accept a payment that is less than the 75% figure. If it costs more to repair the bike, you would have to pay the difference.

I hope this helps
